Australian Poker Pro Wins 2012 Aussie Millions
The 2012 Aussie Millions in Melbourne, Australia was recently completed and fans were pleased to see their local favorite win the title. Oliver Speidel won the main event and took home more than $1.6 million dollars. Australians have dominated this event recently with Stewart Scott winning in 2009 followed by Tyron Krost in 2010, David Gorr last year and now Speidel.
Speidel beat a field of 658 other players to take this year’s title. “This is the biggest tournament in the Southern Hemisphere, and to win it in my home city, it’s almost like a fantasy, it’s crazy.” Speidel said, “You can’t help but think about the money and everything, what sort of freedom that can give me. I feel just amazing.”
It was not an easy Main Event for Speidel who was short stacked at one point but he battled back to win. “At the end of the day, I was incredibly lucky, that’s the overriding factor.” he said, “I figured going into the final table with seven left, I thought I had a one in four, one in five chance, so to win it was incredibly lucky.” In the final hand it was Speidel’s pocket aces beating out Kenny Wong’s pocket nines.
